Day 2- Tuesday, April 19, 2011

The drawbridge of El Alcazar

The mote

El Alcazar- it is beautiful!

Today was the first official day of classes! It was not too bad although we were all still so tired this morning from the trip! We learned a lot about the country of Spain in general today. We got our first homework assignment and will be learning about the Roman influence in Spain tomorrow.

We visited El Alcazar in the afternoon. This is the castle/fortress/palace in Segovia. It is actually what the Disney castle is based off of. It was really neat to see the inside and learn some of the history behind the building. A huge mote surrounds the entire castle and you walk over a drawbridge to enter! There was a fire that destroyed a lot of the original structure but over time different kings have provided funds to restore El Alcazar back to it's original form.

After our trip to El Alcazar, Megan, Caitlin, Kristina, and I went to a little cafe and had our first cafe experience in Spain! Megan, Caitlin, and I got cafe con leche (coffee with milk) and Kristina got an apple crepe! It was very fun! Then we did a little window shopping and headed home for dinner.

Tomorow is my host brother's 21st birthday! We are going out to dinner at an Italian restaurant to celebrate! I am excited to report about my first restaurant experience in Spain!

Well now I am off to do some homework for tomorrow... We have LOTS to read! Enjoy the photos from El Alcazar!
