Day 3- Wednesday, April 20, 2011

We had our second class this morning. We had to walk to the school ourselves today and ended up getting a bit lost! But in the end we found where we needed to go! We learned about the Roman influence in Spain today. We looked at how the Romans influences Spanish laws and religion as well as art and architecture. We also learned more about the Aquaduct and the Roman influence that was involved in building it. The Aquaduct has no cement or mortar holding it together- it is only rocks on top of each other that fit together perfectly to hold everything together! If someone was strong enough to punch of one of the center stones, this is what holds everything together, a whole section would come crashing down! I posted a couple more pictures of the Aquaduct you can marvel at this fact!

Then we went back to El Alcazar because yesterday the tower was closed so we were not able to climb the stair to go to the top of it and look over the city. So today we went back and climbed the steps, all 132 of them! It was a very pretty view, but very tiring!

This afternoon we went to Paseo por la Alameda which was a VERY long path in a park next to a river. We walked all around the outside of Segovia! It was tiring but we got to see an amazing view of El Alcazar which I posted a picture of and we definitely got some good exercise!

Tonight is a very important night in Spain, Madrid is playing Barcelona in soccer, these two teams have a HUGE rivalry and there is a lot of hype about the game. In fact, my family was supposed to go out to dinner for my host brother's birthday- but because of the game we are staying in and he is having friends over to watch the game! Luis, my host brother, is best friends with Andrea, Megan's host sister. So Megan and Andrea will be coming over to watch the game. I will have to post who wins tomorrow! Most people here are rooting for Madrid because it is so close!
